Filmax has taken international rights to “Sky of Sky” (“Zeru Ahoak”), a four-part detective mystery that was hit by bows to officially choose this year at San Sebastián Film Festival.
The Basque Language series, a sequel to “Mouth of Sand,” is directed by Koldo Almandoz (“The Mouth of Sand”, “Ghostship”) and is written by novelist Harkaitz Cano (“Black is Beltza”). Set four years after the previous series, it follows Nere Agarcia (Nagor Arumble, “Querer”, “”). Her old boss, Lertxundi, has proven that she is pivotal when she confronts both her investigation and her own ghosts. The tone appears darker than the “mouth of sand” and is set on the more decadent corners of Bilbao.
Ivan Díaz, International Director of Filmax, added: “When we sold the ‘Sand Mouth’, we wanted more. It was clear that such a special universe deserved continuity. Now the world has grown with even more production values than before. ”
The air night shots, tracking cars through illuminated tunnels, and the pulse soundtrack look like a film-like, and much more like the epic of Michaelman crime than the local TV series. Arumble may be the busiest Basque actress at the festival, starring in three other titles of the official choice, but has been joined by a cast that includes Joséan Benguetoxa (“Chapel”), Sarah Kozar (“20,000 Bees”), Miren Gaztañaga (“Platform”) and “Money Herist.”
“Sky of Sky” will keep you hooked from the start and hold the suspense right up to the end,” said producer Marian Fernández Pascal. “Each new episode will make the plot twist even more, darker, more intense and morally challenging.”
Produced by Garabi Films and Txintxua Films with Basque Public Broadcaster Eitb, the series will air this fall on EITB and subsequent RTVE play, following San Sebastián Premiere.
