She’s alive! Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s monster film The Bride starring Jesse Buckley and Christian Bale.
The official summary of the film states, “The lonely Frankenstein moves to Chicago in the 1930s and creates a companion for himself in search of Dr. Euphronius’ help. The two revitalize the murdered young woman and the bride.
Inspired by James Whale’s “The Bride of Frankenstein” and Mary Shelley’s 1818 “The Bride,” Buckley stars while Bale plays the Frankenstein monster. The cast also includes Penelope Cruz, including Milna, Annette Behning, Peter Salusgaard, Julian Huff and Jake Gyllenhaal.
In April 2024, Maggie Gyllenhaal posted a photo of the first appearance, including a camera test with a Frankenstein Make-up Veil. The film’s crew includes “The Joker” cinematographer Lawrence Sher, “Cinderella” costume designer Sandy Powell, and “Elvis” production designer Karen Murphy. “The Bride” was Gyllenhaal’s second directorial effort, following 2021’s “The Lost Daughter,” winning three Academy Award nominations, starring Buckley and Sarsgaard.
Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride” is one of several Frankenstein films along the way, including as a revived monster that revived the Netflix version directed by Guillermo Del Toro starring “Euphoria” and “Saltburn” starring Jacob Elordi. Del Toro’s films also star Oscar Isaac, Mia Goss, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley Christian Convery, Charles Dance and Christophe Waltz.
Warner Bros. is scheduled to release “The Bride” in theaters on March 6th, 2026.
