5th generation finale, video game, mexican spinoff, final season boy boss

Spoiler alert: This story contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “Gen V,” now available on Amazon’s Prime Video.

The end of “Generation V” Season 2 was a finale that opened the door to the final chapter of “The Boys” and proved that at least one character in the Vought Cinematic Universe may have what it takes to destroy Homelander. Because she just killed the super who ultimately created Homelander.

In the episode, titled “The Trojan Horse,” Marie (Jaz Sinclair) masters her blood control abilities to the point where she is able to defeat the all-powerful Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) before he can defeat all of God U’s “weak” super students.

But just because Godlokin died (certainly this time) doesn’t mean he’s done with The Boys. The Boys showrunner and Generation V co-creator Eric Kripke has said he would like to have Wicked star Slater appear in The Boys prequel series Vought Rising. The series is currently in production and will star Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash reprising their roles as Soldier Boy and Stormfront. But for now, Kripke says:

“He also worked in press, so it was a little difficult to schedule, but we tried,” Kripke continued. “If there was a second season of Vought Rising, we would definitely cast him as Godolkin. I’m so fascinated by the character, and to be able to have him next to Frederic Vought and see these two monsters working together would be great.”

(Speaking of Godolkin’s backstory, is Kripke looking to cast someone to play the as-yet-unknown man who served as Godolkin’s first “puppet” before Godolkin acquired Hamish Linklater’s code? “Not yet,” he says. “But maybe.”)

According to Kripke, The Boys season 5 will air next year, “approximately six months” after the end of Generation V’s Season 2 finale, and will see Marie and her friends join Annie/Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and A-Train (Jesse T. Asher) in the fight against Vought. “When you pick up Season 5 of ‘The Boys,’ you’re going to get a sense of this resistance that starts in earnest at the end of ‘Generation V,’ you know, how it’s going. And here’s the spoiler: It’s not good,” he says.

Marie’s powers are powerful, but Kripke and “Generation V” showrunner Michele Fazikas say they haven’t offered her as a deus ex machina, fully primed and ready to solve “The Boys'” critical Homelander problems.

“She’s extremely powerful, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s great at controlling it,” Kripke says. “She’s not the last Keanu of ‘The Matrix,’ because based on the next few ‘Matrix’ films, she’s not cut out for the show. You need characters who really struggle and grow, especially kids like Marie. So even though she has a lot of raw power, she has to learn how to control it.”

Based on everything fans saw by the end of the “Generation V” Season 2 finale, Kripke can now see the extent of Marie’s powers. “She controls blood down to the cellular level, so that could mean manipulating the blood to cure someone. It could mean making the blood in the head flammable. It could mean using it as a whip. She has ultimate control over every cell that is part of someone’s blood — a question mark?”

According to Kripke, the writers’ room defined Marie’s powers as being “on the same tree” as Victoria Newman’s powers. Victoria Newman, the one Butcher killed the vice president who stuck her head out in the Season 4 finale of The Boys, is “more powerful,” he says. And that will be key in the upcoming battle against Homelander, who still terrifies Newman.

Read more about Variety’s interview with Kripke for the Season 2 finale of “Gen V” below. He talks about plans for Season 3, the possibility of a “The Boys” video game, and the latest on a “The Boys” spinoff set in Mexico.

Jesse T. Asher as A-Train

prime offer

Are there any plans for ‘Generation V’ Season 3 after ‘The Boys’ final season?

I would like to do that. I mean, we have a story and we’ve been talking about it, and I actually love it. I love subverted concepts. It comes down to the classic and very boring TV answer: ratings. We need a big enough audience to justify Amazon coming on board for a third season. I don’t understand. They are watching the numbers closely. They’re keeping a pretty tight poker face for now, but hopefully. Tell your friends and watch the show. Get Season 3!

I’ve heard rumors that there might be a video game adaptation. We’ve seen characters like Homelander integrated into other games like “Mortal Kombat 1,” but is an actual video game adaptation of “The Boys” in the works?

There are currently hopes for a console game to be developed, but there are no concrete plans. I don’t want to give anything away because I don’t know what to say, but we also have plans for other types of video games, not necessarily Xbox or PlayStation.

Erin Moriarty as Annie/Starlight in Generation V Season 2/Amazon

prime offer

Is a “The Boys” spinoff series set in Mexico still in the works? If so, where in the “The Boys” timeline will it take place?

It’s still under construction. Gareth (Danet Alcocer) is a great writer and is currently working on a draft. Under development. I think it’s interesting. But as we will see, development is going through bumpy rapids. It will take place at some point after Season 5 of “The Boys.”

Knowing that there’s a chance for that, and that there’s a chance for “Gen V” Season 3, could there be a continuation of the existing “The Boys” main series characters, depending on who survives?

Yes, that’s the hope, that there are certain characters that can go over to “The Boys” (spin-off) in Mexico. But let’s see.

So what do you think your goal will be by the end of “The Boys”? What kind of story are you trying to finish by the end of “The Boys”?

You could say we’re about to land the plane on exactly the main concern of “The Boys”: Butcher vs. Homelander. Huey and Annie’s love story. Everything that “The Boys” deals with, including Butcher and Huey’s fractious brother-brother relationship, is about to be brought to a conclusion in a surprising and emotional way.

This interview has been edited and condensed.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed the title of the “Gen V” Season 2 finale as “Trojan.”
