Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Gen V Season 2, Episode 6, now available on Amazon’s Prime Video.
There was a lot of news in this week’s episode of “Generation V” Season 2, most of which the God-U students learned during their time in former Vought boss Stan Edgar’s (Giancarlo Esposito) “weird billionaire bunker” after their escape from Elmira, “Generation V” showrunner Michele Fazzikas tells Variety.
Among the major reveals during the crossover cameo on “The Boys” are: Thomas Godolkin (played by Ethan Slater) is actually an elderly burn victim in a hyperbaric chamber who has been cared for/abused by God-U Dean Cypher (Haimish Linklater). Godolkin came up with the Odessa project. Marie (Jaz Sinclair) and Homelander (Anthony Starr) are the only two survivors of the experiment in Odessa. After her mother, Victoria Newman, dies in Season 4 of The Boys, Zoe (Olivia Morandin) is safely placed in the care of her adoptive grandfather, Stan Edgar. Marie’s estranged sister Annabeth (Keiyah King) is a super person with the power to see the future.
As Cypher’s master plan is revealed to build on what Godolkin started in Odessa, target the weakest supers and eliminate 75% of God U’s student population, and then do the same to the world’s super communities, Marie and Kate (Maddie Phillips) decide to return to campus on their own, hoping that if they save Thomas Godolkin from Cypher, he will help and find a way to end Cypher’s plot. To defeat Homelander once and for all.
Here, ‘Generation V’ showrunner Fuzzykas breaks down the big reveal in Episode 6 and how the remaining two episodes of ‘Generation V’ Season 2 will set up ‘The Boys’ upcoming fifth and final season, which premieres next year.
Marie was able to prove her healing abilities and bring her sister back from the dead. Could this be the power Cypher was trying to harness? What is his ultimate goal in trying to get her by using a power that transcends blood?
That’s one of them. It is healing, but I would say it is a step towards his ultimate goal. It’s not the ultimate goal. And I distinguish between healing and resurrection. Because I think she was careful to make sure that she wasn’t reviving the dead. But the discussion doesn’t end there.
Was Annabeth’s form of death, where her throat was slit and she bled out, specifically the reason why she was able to heal Marie? Could it be this bloody nature that allowed her to bring back her sister?
Not necessarily.
In this episode, we learn that Annabeth herself is a super, a precog, and received Compound V. Was Annabeth as much a part of Odessa as Marie?
No, you can safely say no.
The reveal that Godolkin is a burnt old man kept alive by Cypher is a major deletion from the lore. I know you and “The Boys” creator Eric Kripke said back in Season 1 that it was possible to watch “Generation V” separately from “The Boys,” but now it feels like we’re really diving deeper into Vought’s backstory. So if you haven’t watched “Generation V” season 2, you’ll have a hard time watching the final season of “The Boys.”
I’m not in a position to ask questions about the next season of “The Boys.” I don’t actually know, but I doubt it. The way Eric Kripke and I think, if you watch both shows, you’ll understand the story on a different level than someone who only watched one or the other. However, we want those who haven’t seen it yet to enjoy it and understand the story. Even if you’ve never seen “The Boys” before, the way they talk about Homelander will tell you who Homelander is, whether you’ve seen it or not. So, would you get more out of it by watching this and then watching “The Boys”? Maybe, but it wouldn’t be so complicated that you couldn’t understand it.
What was Godolkin’s main focus and original plan here in Odessa, and why are Marie and Homelander the only ones left alive for now? What made them special?
I think that’s what Cipher is trying to get across. And part of it is just science. You do a lot of different experiments, you try things a lot of different ways, and some things just work. Science is all about being able to reproduce it. I think that’s the difficult part. Why did it work for Homelander and Marie but not for the other things they’re experimenting with? You can go down rabbit holes like genetics. But these are the two that are working well for me at the moment.
There are similarities in that Marie was like a test tube baby. I don’t think this is a spoiler. So was Homelander. That’s part of the reason it behaves differently for them.
And it had already been said that Annabeth wasn’t particularly like that.
correct.
We talk about Dean Shetty’s plans for Season 1 and what Cipher is trying to do here. Shetty was trying to eliminate all the supers, while Cipher was trying to eliminate the weak supers. What is his purpose here?
Wanting to eliminate the weak is similar to resource management. For example, let’s get rid of what we consider stupid and focus all our efforts on what is perfect, what will elevate us. He’s basically trying to become a super version of Darwin. We intend to let only the fittest survive. We are not going to waste our time and effort on something stupid, in his estimation. And that’s a theme that I really love coming out of the season, that just because he thinks the powers that be are stupid doesn’t necessarily mean anything, because they can still be heroes. He ignores them in a way, because even foolish powers ultimately bring about change. And that is a flaw and a mistake.
Still unexplained at this point in the season as to why Marie couldn’t sense Compound V in Cypher?
No, it’s not.
But, right?
Oh, sure. It wasn’t our mistake. That’s intentional and to be expected.
There are two more episodes left in the season. No spoilers, but can you tell us if there’s a season 3 in store? How long do you think the show will last when “The Boys” itself ends and “Vought Rising” becomes a prequel to the series?
I think there are many ways to create a third season. Our job here was to land on “The Boys,” but that doesn’t actually mean there won’t be another season of “Generation V.” That’s the great thing about college shows. Everyone goes to college all the time. But our job was to launch us into a new season of “The Boys.”
