Revolutionaries, monsters, vampires and accused aliens will dominate this year’s Oscar nominations, with two films from Warner Bros. competing to make their mark in Academy history.

Ryan Coogler’s bold vampire drama “Sinners” is expected to make Academy Awards history with an astonishing 15 nominations, making it the most nominated film in history, surpassing “All About Eve,” “Titanic” and “La La Land.” The Michael B. Jordan-starring thriller could appear in major categories including Best Picture, Best Director and All-Craft, as well as supporting actor nominations for Miles Caton and Delroy Lindo, and a second original song nomination, which could make those numbers even bigger.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s political blockbuster One Battle After Another is expected to follow this season by far, earning 13 nominations. The epic drama could achieve the rare feat of having five actors – Leonardo DiCaprio, Chase Infinity, Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Teyana Taylor – ranked in all four acting categories, making it only the 16th film in Oscar history to achieve this honor and the first since 2013’s “American Hustle.”

Chloe Zhao’s intimate grief drama “Hamnet” is expected to do well overall, with former Oscar-winning actress Chloe Zhao set to become the second woman to be nominated for multiple directorial awards. The Shakespeare-inspired film could receive nominations for leading actress Jessie Buckley and supporting actor for Paul Mescal, along with technical reviews.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme round out the competitive Best Director lineup, while the 10 Best Picture categories reflect the year’s diversity of genres, from the racing spectacle F1 to Emma Stone’s sci-fi comedy Bugonia to the Brazilian international thriller The Secret Agent.

Four films are expected to receive 10 or more nominations this year, making this the second time in Oscar history. First, in 2019, “Joker” topped the list with 11 reviews, followed by “The Irishman,” “1917” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” with 10 each.

This year’s Oscar nominations are expected to be one of the most eclectic and competitive, spanning political dramas, creature features, sports spectacles and intimate character portrayals.

Variety’s final predictions are as follows (in alphabetical order):

Official rankings can be viewed on each category page (scheduled to be updated from January 20th to 21st).

Note: All producers and artisans credited are subject to change. The final decision will be made by the Academy and announced as part of the nominations announcement.
