“Superman” has reached 13 million viewers in its first 10 days on HBO Max, marking the largest 10-day viewers on the film debut platform since “Barbie” began streaming in 2023.
The film, directed by James Gunn, starring David Corenswett as the prestigious hero, and the DC Studios film hit HBO Max on September 19th. Other titles involving Superman characters saw viewers’ spikes just before the film began streaming, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. During the week of September 15th and 21st, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” saw a 670% increase in streaming compared to the previous week. “Superman: The Movie” jumped 155%, “Superman Returns” jumped 120%, and “Man of Steel” jumped 40% in the same window.
“Superman” was released in theaters in July. It was at the box office, winning over $600 million on a $225 million budget, and worked well among critics. The film hits 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, with variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman writing a largely positive review, “Watch Superman.” “Gun builds a complex game of superhero stories.
Along with Coren Sweat as Superman/Clark Kent, “Superman” is Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell with other cast members including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Foolt as Lex Luther, and Eddie Gategi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabella Mercedo, Skylar Gizondo, Sarah Sampaio, Maria Gabiaio and Maria Gabiaio. Gunn wrote and directed the film and produced it alongside co-head of Peter Saffron, co-head of DC Studios. Executive producers include Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars Winther.
